Rosedale Center opened in 1969 and was last updated with a major renovation in 1992. Many of Rosedale’s competitors – Southdale Center, Eden Prairie Center, Brookdale Center and Burnsville Center – completed renovations in 2001-2002.

A new lifestyle center, The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes, opened in Maple Grove in summer 2003, and Woodbury Lakes, a 400,000 s.f. lifestyle center, is scheduled to open in September 2005.

For years, the main obstacles facing Rosedale Center were the lack of food options and the need for an entertainment component to keep shoppers at Rosedale longer and to increase their average expenditure.
