Situation
Originally developed in 1980, Fingerlakes Mall featured three national anchors and a regional anchor, 75 specialty stores, a movie theater, a skating rink and a food court area.
Fingerlakes Mall was the first of four regional shopping centers to open in a 40 mile radius. The strongest of these competitors, Carousel Center, will soon morph into Destiny USA, the largest mall in the United States, with a start date in 2006.
From 1995 to 1999, occupancy rapidly declined due to a long empty anchor. By 2000, occupancy was just 45%.
